Closed places are almost always the occasion for the sudden appearance of distant or imaginary places. If Xavier de Maistre (1763 – 1852) wasable to wander the world and History in the confines of his room and writing was the instrument of mediation, why not use other tools in thismediation between the infinitesimal and the infinitely open? Writing assumes a non-verbal functioning, to allow an evacuation of its structuresand from this estrangement engenders its distancing, its impotence, its openness and porosity, its continuous identity crisis, its myths of self-overcoming and also, to conceive its terms, its dehumanization.

The drawings and objects presented in Chinese Room (2022/24) are a manifestation of this writing – within a small compartment, uponreceiving external stimuli, the mechanisms of construction, representation and use of this language are altered to prevent the remaking of formsof collaboration with the apparatus.
